United Way of Greater Duluth's 16th Annual Day of Caring occurred, despite rain, on June 22, 2011.   This annual Day of Caring matches teams of community-minded volunteers with local non-profit agencies in need of extra hands. Volunteers can make a real difference by tackling agency projects such as painting, planning activities for kids, collecting supplies, landscaping, light maintenance and many other opportunities. Everyone is welcome!

The Day of Caring is a great way to promote volunteerism, increase awareness of local human service agencies and give people a chance to see firsthand the impact United Way and local agencies are creating in our community.   Volunteers can select the type of project in which they would like to participate. For example, the staff from Little Angie’s Cantina and Grill take kids from the Damiano Center to the Lake Superior Zoo each year.  “We love it!” says Sandy Kolasinski at Little Angie’s. “It’s a great teambuilding opportunity for our staff to work together outside of the work place.”

There is no cost involved to participate, and every volunteer receives their very own Day of Caring T-shirt, which they are encouraged to wear throughout the day.  Consider making our community a better place to live by joining us next year on the Day of Caring.  Visit www.volunteerduluth.org to sign-up online or contact Ayla Salter at 218.726.4770; email:volunteercenter@unitedwayduluth.org.
