High-Impact Initiative:
Early Childhood School Readiness

The Early Childhood Initiative vision is to promote future success for children, families, and the community by ensuring that children are ready for school through implementation of a community-based early childhood care and education plan.

The Initiative goal is to increase the percentage of children in Kindergarten in Greater Duluth (Hermantown, Proctor, Duluth) who enter Kindergarten ready for school.

This will be accomplished by working with the school districts, and early childhood care and education providers to conduct School Readiness Assessments in order to develop a local baseline of data, to identify and implement appropriate high-impact strategies addressing the areas of deficiency.

The strategies will include: supports to parents and caregivers, improving access and affordability to high quality settings, and programs to improve transition from early childhood to Kindergarten.
