Each year, United Way of Greater Duluth coordinates its annual fundraising
campaign on behalf of local human service agencies in our community. To see how you can
help us reach our goal this year, take a look at what a difference your own contribution
can make.
Dollars through United Way are targeted to meet the most pressing needs of our
community and impact the lives of one in four people who live here. When you make a
contribution to United Way, the impact of your gift is multiplied in a variety of
ways.
First, your
contribution to United Way is used to address the most pressing needs of our community.
Local volunteers periodically complete studies, review surveys and conduct local research
to make sure your gift is directed to areas of greatest need in our community.
Second, by
giving a gift through United Way, you know that your contribution is used wisely. Local
agencies are held accountable for providing quality service that is efficient and cost
effective. Collaboration is encouraged to ensure positive outcomes, and care is taken to
avoid duplication of services. Periodic reports on measurable outcomes are required.
Third, your
contribution to United Way helps local agencies in our community leverage additional
funds. Local United Way support plays an integral role in helping agencies secure
additional financial support.
Finally, by
giving a gift through United Way, you enable agencies to spend the majority of their time,
energy and resources on providing service to people in need, not fundraising. United Way
utilizes its resources and volunteers in the community to raise significant funds on
behalf of these local agencies.
 A contribution to United Way is a great
way to make a difference in our community. Any gift, no matter how large or small, has the
power to make a significant difference in the life of someone who lives here. For example,
just look at what your dollars can do:
$1.72 per week enables the
Boys & Girls Club to serve 114 different youth in computer labs.
$1.04 per pay period
($27.09 per year) will provide one week of safe day shelter, advocacy and supportive
services for a homeless man, woman or child.
$5.00 per pay period ($130
per year) covers the cost of matching a mentor with a child.
$1.25 per pay period
($32.50 per year) will provide 50 hours of facility based Extended Employment services.
$26 per year will pay for
one mental health counseling visit at Lake Superior Community Health Center.
$2.00 per pay period
($48.00 per year) provides date rape education to 25 high school students.
$20.00 will feed a family
of four with special medical diet needs for one week.
